STANDBY

Lay your dreams beneath the pillow
Wake up, dreamer. Rise and shine

For the sleep of this candid city
Reeks of plastic infidelity

Your dreams will wither here
Oh, what bitter-fancy it is
So wrap your bedding daintily
And go wherever the journey leads

Dive in to the yellow welcome
Of a love borne in silence
And even let hate prevail
So that solitude could cleanse
The ruins of a public alienation
Found in a single moment of truth
That echoes until the close
Of this musing rigmarole

Then, clarity will find you
Then, freedom will be true
Until then, let's just be friends
Let us standby, until we meet again
