SWEET NOTHING

A shadow passes
From former times
Quietly through transparent walls
Of my glass castle
And the brain quivers
Even when reason stands tall
What were we, my love?
Or are we still
Growing like the backyard vines
That need not water
That need not light
But just ignorance, your and mine
We seized our times
With loosened inhibitions
This time, let us lose the day
Our attempts were brave
Our gesture compassionate
Yet here we are in comfortable dismay
This day will pass too
Like a newfound joy
That scent of a sweet nothing
And we will lie
In our vacant beds
Each night, tossing and turning
