THE ADULT ROMANTIC

We come to an end, my friend
A brief, temporary amend,
So bid farewell with grace
And meet me again
Where the sun descends
Into the bracing horizon;
Paving way for stars
And darkness
To mingle and corrode-
Passionately, until dawn breaks.

Since we are unaware
Of what future holds,
I will hold on to you
When we meet again,
To not let go
And go with you
Wherever you roam;
Or stay, or settle, or survive.
We'll end many more times
Before the end
Of our undulating lives.

But endings don't scare me,
Beginnings do.
We begin like science
And end like art.
And you know how
I have failed at science
Many, many times.
I'm a common artisan
Who knows just but his muse,
A muse that is you.
